Dialogue – Trialogue #2 : Künstlerbund Baden-Württemberg at Museum Biedermann

Museum Biedermann presented the first part of the exhibition Dialogue – Trialogue from 30 June to 3 November. It featured twenty-one members of the Künstlerbund Baden-Württemberg, each of whom invited a fellow artist with whom they developed a concept for a joint presentation at Museum Biedermann. For the second exhibition, each pair invited a third artist. The dialogue becomes a ‘trialogue’. However, the Künstlerbund member is no longer represented by a work; instead he or she takes on the role of a curator presenting the works of his or her guests. Experimental and collaborative, Dialogue – Trialogue provides a rare insight into the different ways artists engage with each other’s work.

Participating artists (member: guest 1 & guest 2): Olga Allenstein: Eva Früh & Esther Strub / Beate Baumgärtner: Stefanie Reling & David Burns / Eva Borsdorf: Margarete Lindau & AndreasMy / Willi Bucher: Hans-Jürgen Kossack & Tobias Maximiliam Schnell / Annalisa Cardinale: Linda Eberle & Jong Hyun Park / Friedemann Flöther: Philipp Morlock & Klaus Fabricius / Irmela Maier: Albrecht Schmidt & Miriam Lenz, Immanuel Preuss / Daniel Mijic: Reto Boller & Guido Vorburger / Heinz Pelz: Myriam Holme & Jörg Baier / Sigrid Perthen: Andreas Bressmer & Bruno Nagel / Christoph Poetsch: Christian Ertel & Skafte Kuhn / Anne Römpp: Julia Wenz & David Semper / Uwe Schäfer: Roland Schön & Jost Scheider / Martin Bruno Schmid: Xaver Sedelmeier & Philipp Haager / Alf Setzer: Micha Ullmann & Abi Shek / Eckart Steinhauser: Christine de la Garenne & Julia Pfeiffer / Markus Strieder: Thomas Deyle & Karolin Bräg / Heinz Treiber: Harald Kröner & David Heitz / Voré: Simon Pfeffel & Wolfgang Rempfer / Elisabeth Wagner: Platino & Samuel Seger

Review: Julia Pfeiffer ‘Figures of the Thinkable’ in ArtReview

images
by Martin Herbert

Julia Pfeiffer’s show ends on a messy note: a wall entirely smeared with clay. Peeking through cracks in the blistering grey gunk, patches of warmly coloured underpainting glimmer with potentiality. Preceding this are 11 ceramic works and four c-prints; but Figures of the Thinkable (titled after a book by Greek/French theorist Cornelius Castoriadis) could be telescoped down to that feat of clay. The Berlin-based artist’s work exists simultaneously in the anterior, posterior and present: something has happened that speaks of something about to happen, which results in something else – the artwork – happening right now. The ‘thinkable’ of the title, it would seem, is the vectored range of thought that the artwork opens onto.
